The Summertime Striper Bite is in Full Swing.

Report Date: July 9, 2009

Shane Watson's Lake Lanier Fishing Report (07-09-09). The striper fishing has been very good since my last report. We've had our boats out on trips everyday and the summertime striper bite is in full swing. Downlined bluebacks fished 30 to 40 feet deep over a 50-80 foot bottom have produced best. There are fish down south and at mid-lake. Down south, we have caught stripers from the middle to the mouths of creeks, just off and over main creek channels. At mid-lake, our boats have done well just off the main channel and in the mouths of deeper coves just off the main lake. We have had many 20 to 30 fish catch and release trips this week and last. On my boat, we have done best for the first 4 hours or so each day and came back. A few of my other boats have had a good late morning and mid day bite further up the lake. Some of these schools of fish will bite very well early and you will go thru 5 or 6 dozen baits by 10:00 or so. Some of the schools that will you find, will bite better after the sun gets up high. Alot of it depends if you are on fish early or if you have to look around for them. From Mid-July thru the end of September, you don't have to get out there at the crack of dawn to catch fish, as we normally see a good mid-day bite in the mouths of southend creeks out over the timber. Leadcore is showing some signs of life and will only improve over the next few weeks. Overall, the striper fishing has been very good. Please observe Ga. DNR creel limits if you keep fish and try to get the fish back in the water quickly if you are releasing them. This report is brought to you by Shane Watson Guide Service and Hammond's Fishing Center. Good Fishing.
